What a fantastic journey Trainfest has become. From small beginnings in 1971, we held our first one day show in a Milwaukee VFW hall. Today, Trainfest is America's largest operating model railroad show attracting over 21,000 visitors annually over two days to explore the world of model railroading. Even though Trainfest is rooted in Milwaukee, visitors, hobbyists, exhibitors and manufacturers come from across country to participate in this model train spectacular.

Passion. How did we go from a VFW club to over 200,000 square feet of exhibit space? Our origins and our success can be attributed to one thing-Passion.  It is a passion that unifies all who experience Trainfest. We love model trains! It's a passion that can be felt the moment you first set eyes on one of our layouts. 

The incredible scale models on display range in size; some are as small as 3'x5' and as big as 60'x80'. There are over 50 operating layouts and displays with details and ingenuity you have to see to believe. And, you have to see them!  There is an infectious enthusiasm that permeates Trainfest. For two days the adults become kids, the kids become enthusiasts, the enthusiasts become kids... In a way, we envy those of you that will be attending Trainfest for the first time, but we're grateful for the vicarious discovery you'll give us.

It's in the imaginations of all these "children," as they stare at the vast countrysides of Styrofoam and plastic, where these layouts truly come to life. Many of us were introduced to model trains when we were young and immediately were hooked. That's why we have kid-friendly activities, so that families know how important their presence at Trainfest truly is. Part of our mission is not only to support present model train hobbyists, but also to inspire the enthusiasts of tomorrow.
    
It's an amazing cycle. When you see these railroad models you'll be awestruck by the creativity, the craftsmanship, the enthusiasm that emanates from every centimeter. And, as you're taking in these Miniature Worlds, their creators will be enjoying the wonder in your eyes as you discover them. 

Discovery. Trainfest is one discovery after another: From the layouts with their countless details to the wide variety of intricately crafted model trains, you will be surprised and delighted. Those who are new to the world of model trains will discover how these tiny marvels come to be and the passion called model railroading.
